India 2011 with SalaamGarage
July 16, 2011
I wanted to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to this project – together we have raised over $2,300 so far. In Rajasthan, India, we will be working with Vatsalya, an organization that provides a better life for children and rural women. Vatsalya’s largest mission is the rescue of homeless, abandoned, and abused children. Vatsalya was SalaamGarage’s first partner, in 2007. The current trip is scheduled for October 23-November 5, 2011.
Special thanks to Lisa Field-Elliot for providing the beautiful image of Bidam to help support my fundraising efforts for the project. Lisa traveled to India with SalaamGarage in 2009. You can see more of Lisa’s work at doorways traveler here.
Donations are still being accepted to cover the associated costs of this journey. If you are interested in this project and would like to learn more about SalaamGarage, feel free to contact me at 206-650-7905 or email anytime at photos@pauloutwest.com.
Auction to benefit India 2011 with SalaamGarage
April 16, 2011
Pacific Galleries has generously agreed to partner with me in my fundraising efforts to travel to India in the fall with SalaamGarage. It’s a great time to clean out the attic, dump oddball upholstery – rethink that Hummel collection.
We will be accepting donations of good quality household goods, antiques, art and collectibles until April 27th. Items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the Pacific Galleries Estate Auction in SODO on May 1st between 11am-4pm and proceeds will go directly to the project.
We are available to pick-up items in the Seattle area and beyond as necessary. Please contact me directly for more information at photos@pauloutwest.com. Hummel image courtesy of digitaljp at Flickr.

India 2011 with SalaamGarage
February 14, 2011
As a photographer in the Pacific Northwest, I find the region to be a tremendous resource for my craft. Over the last four years, I have documented the birth of Seattle’s light rail system to the death of a long-neglected bridge – Fremont’s lively Solstice Celebration and the surreal beauty of Crater Lake.
This year I have chosen to embark on a journey to India with SalaamGarage – a digital storytelling, citizen journalism organization. Participants connect with international NGOs, create and share independent media projects that raise awareness and cause positive change in their online and offline social communities.
