Jeanne's Gems

The Broadway Sunday Farmer’s Market in Capitol Hill, which features local, in-season produce, baked goods and fresh cut flowers, will close for the season on December 19th.

Hands down, the best cookies in Seattle are available at the market – Jeanne’s Gems, artisan vegan, gluten free cookies are almost too beautiful to eat. Jeanne’s mission: Make amazing cookies that more people can enjoy. Besides selling at the Broadway Sunday Farmer’s Market, she has sold at Seattle Tilth, the Cascade Farmers Market and others. She delivers locally for those who would like a dozen or more, for more information contact Jeanne at jeanneag@gmail.com.

Caution

It’s been a year since Sound Transit opened the Central Link light rail connecting downtown Seattle with Tukwila, then extending to Sea-Tac airport in December 2009. The second leg is currently under construction and will open in 2016 to connect the system with the University of Washington. Sound Transit officials estimated ridership for the first year was 6 million. Light rail carries approximately  23,400 riders each weekday.

I ride the light rail to work a few days a week myself – sometimes leaving the car at home for a week or two. It can be a challenge though when driving is faster and cheaper with ample free parking and a quick drive to SODO. I try to do my part as an avid Seattleite to support the system and reduce my footprint on the world. And I do enjoy my morning walk though Seattle’s livelier neighborhoods to Westlake Center – then it’s just a quick 10 minute ride to the old grind. Here are a few shots from the last year.
